Apple, Samsung in talks to reach out-of-court settlement on patent lawsuits

In an attempt to reach an out-of-court settlement on the several patent lawsuits which Apple and Samsung have filed against each other, the Apple CEO Tim Cook and the Samsung CEO Choi Gee-sung - along with their general counsels - began their two-day court directed discussions on Monday.

The talks between the two CEOs - who were summoned and directed for the discussions by federal court judge Lucy Koh last month - are being mediated by a magistrate judge.

China approves Google’s bid for Motorola

China has asked Google to fulfill a big condition to get approval for its $12.5 billion bid to acquire handset manufacturer Motorola Mobility.

Chinese authorities have confirmed that Google will have to continue to offer its Android operating system for mobile devices at no cost for five years following the acquisition.

In case the internet search giant agrees to the condition, it will become very close to sealing its largest acquisition deal ever.

A spokesperson for Google confirmed that Chinese authorities approved the deal on Saturday, with a big condition.

Motorola Mobility smartphones face US import ban

A Friday verdict by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) went Microsoft's way, with the commission - ruling in the Microsoft-Motorola patent-infringement lawsuit - banning the import of Android-based Motorola Mobility handsets in the country. The ITC verdict upholds a December last year decision by Administrative Law Judge Theodore Essex.

Jobs reportedly wanted to design an iCar before his death

In a revelation of sorts about the never-before-heard insights into late Apple CEO Steve Jobs' plans and ambitions, Apple board member Mickey Drexler - who is the CEO of J. Crew - said that Jobs wanted to design an iCar before his death.

Apple making major changes to iCloud; adding new photo-sharing service

A new Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, citing unidentified ‘inside’ sources, has revealed that Apple intends bringing on some major changes to its iCloud service, adding to it a few social networking features including a new photo-sharing service.

According to the WSJ report, the new features – which will probably be announced by Apple at its mid-June-scheduled Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) – will give the iCloud users the ability to share photo albums with other iCloud users, and also comment on them.

Oracle Goes For Broke In Court Battle With Google

After U. S. District Judge William Alsup sternly rebuked Oracle for going on a "fishing expedition" for damages that were apparently beyond the standard sum for copyright infringement, Oracle has now gone for broke in its high-profile Java lawsuit against Google.

Making an all-or-next-to-nothing bet in its legal scuffle with Google, Oracle said in a Tuesday statement that in case Judge Alsup says in his verdict that the Java APIs are not subject to copyright, the company will withdraw its claim for extensive damages from Google for violating copyrights pertaining to other Java components.
